Silversea takes over Silver Ray

Silver Ray

Yesterday, the protagonists of the Royal Caribbean Group and Meyer Werft gathered in Eemshaven to celebrate a defining moment in the annals of luxury cruising: The ceremonial handover of the Silver Ray to Silversea, the second jewel in the respectable Nova class.

The ceremony on 14 May marked a significant milestone in Silversea’s era of boldly expanding its repertoire of ultra-luxury and expedition cruises.

Celebrations under maritime traditions

During the festive ceremony, illustrious personalities such as Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, and Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea, witnessed a series of maritime rituals – including the symbolic changing of the flag, a signing ceremony and commemorative speeches. A celebratory toast was the highlight of the event, which was characterised by a spirit of anticipation and the importance of the ship for the industry.

A new definition of luxury on the high seas

With the Silver Ray and its sister ship, the Silver Nova, the Nova class heralds a new era of luxury at sea with its asymmetrical design and impressive 4,000 square metres of glass surface. These ships are among the most environmentally friendly in their class and set new standards in terms of emissions reduction. The Silver Ray will set off on her maiden voyage from Lisbon on 15 June and spend her first season in the Mediterranean.

A ship that looks outwards

“As the second ship in our state-of-the-art Nova class, Silver Ray beautifully embodies Royal Caribbean Group’s vision for the future of innovative ultra-luxury and expedition cruising,” said Bert Hernandez. “Silver Ray is not only one of the most energy-efficient ships ever built, but also a groundbreaking, outward-facing ship concept that will give our guests greater access to extraordinary destinations. I am honoured that my first delivery as President of Silversea will be to welcome Silver Ray to our fleet. I can’t wait for our guests to experience all that this remarkable ship has to offer.”

Early completion as a “significant milestone”

“The delivery of the Silver Ray, two days earlier than planned, is an important milestone for us,” emphasised Bernd Eikens, CEO of Meyer Group. “The entire team at Meyer Werft has worked hard with our partners to bring this ship to life – and today we have delivered another great ship to Silversea.”
