An exciting new chapter in the history of the Althoff St. James’s Hotel & Club has begun: renowned chef William Drabble has opened the Francatelli restaurant, a tribute to the legendary 19th century chef Charles Elmé Francatelli. This new culinary hotspot in Mayfair combines the essence of historic British cuisine with a modern, accessible concept.

Inspired by a kitchen classic

Francatelli, which replaces the former Seven Park Place restaurant, draws its inspiration from Francatelli’s famous work “The Modern Cook“. The menu is a direct reflection of this inspiration and combines timeless recipes with fresh, regional ingredients. Drabble, who has long cultivated a preference for local produce and seasonal ingredients, is continuing the tradition and legacy of Charles Elmé Francatelli with Francatelli. The dishes, from Scottish broth to lobster with winter truffles, are not only a flavourful homage to the Victorian era, but also to fine British cuisine.

An ambience that combines tradition and modernity

Not only the food, but also the ambience at Francatelli reflects the successful symbiosis of tradition and modernity. The interior, a mixture of elegant design and cosy atmosphere, together with good music and direct access to the bar, creates a place that invites you to linger and at the same time offers a culinary journey through time. The restaurant’s bar has also undergone a redesign, with a food and drinks menu that draws heavily on historical recipes while still offering a modern twist.

A culinary meeting place for globetrotters and locals

Benedikt Jaschke, COO of Althoff Hotels, emphasises the aim of Francatelli to be an appealing gastronomic meeting place for international guests and the local population. With a mix of sophisticated cuisine and a convivial, welcoming atmosphere, Francatelli is aimed at an audience that appreciates both British history and modern cookery.
