The question “Are Sweden and Switzerland the same?” may sound absurd to many, but 120,000 people worldwide ask themselves this question every year. Sweden has now had enough and is campaigning for a clear distinction between the two countries.

Reasons for the confusion

Time and again, people confuse Sweden and Switzerland, even though the differences are clear. Especially abroad, there is a lack of clarity about the two countries. Even high-ranking international figures cannot always distinguish between the two nations. This has led to considerable misunderstandings and curious stories in the past, such as that of Anna from Sweden, whose mother actually wanted to visit Switzerland and ended up in Sweden instead – with life-changing consequences.

Confusion study

The national tourism organisation, Visit Sweden, has commissioned a survey to measure the extent of the confusion. It found that 50% of US respondents had difficulty recognising cultural differences between the two countries. These results reinforce how widespread the confusion between Sweden and Switzerland is.

Sweden’s approach

Determined to solve the puzzle once and for all, Sweden has proposed concrete measures. Visit Sweden has presented a first draft of an official agreement between the two countries. This is about making clear distinctions in the advertising campaigns of both countries. For example, Sweden should promote sandbanks, rooftop bars and silence, while Switzerland focuses on banks, mountain peaks and traditional sounds like yodelling.

Susanne Andersson, Managing Director of Visit Sweden, underlines the necessity of the initiative by saying: “If people cannot tell Sweden and Switzerland apart, we have to help them. It’s not about changing our names, it’s about becoming clearer.”

Conclusion

The ongoing confusion between Sweden and Switzerland has prompted both countries to seek solutions to define their respective identities more clearly. While the two countries certainly have their own unique characteristics and cultures, it is clear that further action is needed to end the confusion once and for all. It remains to be seen how Switzerland will react to Sweden’s proposal and whether an official agreement will be reached.

The city of Chemnitz can be pleased about an innovative novelty in the hotel industry. The Hotel c/o56 Chemnitz unveils the first 24/7 hotel shop in the region called “c/onsum56”. This offers not only snacks and drinks, but also a wide range of souvenirs and more. But what makes this shop so special?

A shop of a special kind

“c/onsum56” is not just an extension of the conventional minibar. It offers a variety of products, from drinks and hot food to cosmetics and travel guides. The range of souvenirs from Chemnitz and the Ore Mountains is particularly impressive.

In addition to the diverse range of products, “c/onsum56” stands out with its self-service concept. Guests can shop and pay without cash or an app, just like at a self-service checkout in a supermarket. And if you do have any questions, the friendly reception team at c/o56 Chemnitz is always available to help.

Innovation meets tradition

The c/o56 Chemnitz has once again positioned itself as a pioneer of the Chemnitz hotel industry with the “c/onsum56”. After the sustainability certification in July, this is another milestone in the hotel’s development to be one of the most progressive hotels in the region and in the Free State.

As General Manager Falko Grober proudly points out: “We are very proud to have developed and opened a self-service shop together with the company Wanzl GmbH & Co. KGaA, to have developed and opened a self-service shop that our guests as well as the people of Chemnitz themselves will appreciate in equal measure.” He particularly highlights the wide selection of high-quality souvenirs that the hotel offers its guests.

Regional partnerships

A special feature of “c/onsum56” is also the cooperation with regional producers. Nicole Strebe from Crottendorfer Räucherkerzen explains: “A gift set, for example with a smoker, is a keepsake that you can enjoy for a long time, not just at Christmas time.”

In addition, Robert Richter from the Chemnitz Kreativfabrik emphasises the importance of such innovative projects for the Capital of Culture 2025.

The c/o56 Chemnitz has not only taken a step into the future with the “c/onsum56”, but also offers its guests a unique opportunity to experience the culture and tradition of the region up close. A visit to the hotel and its unique shop is recommended for locals and tourists alike.

On 20 October 2023, Rosewood Munich opened its magnificent doors, bringing a breath of fresh air to Munich’s vibrant Old Town.

Situated in two striking buildings – the former Bayerische Staatsbank and the Palais Neuhaus-Preysing – the hotel offers a captivating blend of baroque history and modern flair. Steps from Marienplatz, Rosewood Munich skilfully brings out the spirit of Bavarian culture and community.

Architecture and Design: A Play of Old and New

The impressive buildings of Rosewood Munich were restored under the careful guidance of Hilmer Sattler Architects Ahlers Albrecht and Tara Bernerd & Partners from London. The dazzling fusion of baroque and rococo styles with modern elegance is striking. The interior of the restaurant and bar, designed by DiPPOLD Innenarchitektur from Munich, underlines the luxurious claim of the house.

Exclusive accommodation with a touch of majesty

With 73 rooms, 59 suites and five exquisite “Houses” – named after members of the Bavarian royal family – the hotel sets new standards for style and comfort. Each house impresses with its individual design and offers amenities such as individual butler service.

Arts and culture: A stage for local talent

The hotel also proves to be a venue for art. Works by Olaf Hajek, Rosanna Merklin and photographs by Michael Mann adorn the walls. A special eye-catcher is a centrepiece by ceramic artist Angelika Maria Stiegler.

Culinary delights and wellness: a feast for the senses

Rosewood Munich also delights the palate. From Brasserie Cuvilliés to Bar Montez, guests can immerse themselves in culinary diversity. Those looking for relaxation will not be disappointed at the Asaya® Spa – the first in Germany.

DIE ÖLFREUNDE: A name that is currently on everyone’s lips and taking Germany by storm. But what is really behind this emerging oil production empire?

The amazing success story

It’s a bit like a fairy tale: A young, 17-year-old Paul Belthle, receives a small oil mill for Christmas in 2018. Initially just a hobby, he presses oils, refines them with herbs and delights family and friends with his creations. The oils were not only delicious, they were also authentic and honest. No wonder demand grew rapidly. From regional markets to leading food retailers such as Rewe and Edeka – the rise of ÖLFREUNDE was unstoppable.

Paul’s enthusiasm and business acumen ensured that his father, then manager of a youth hostel that was closed during the Corona Lockdown, also became part of the adventure. A truly family-run business, where today Paul’s parents are permanently employed in his manufactory.

The quality standard of DIE ÖLFREUNDE

“Our oils are cold pressed, up to 37 degrees,” stresses Paul, who emphasises the importance of the quality and authenticity of his products. “Nature that you can taste,” the young entrepreneur continues. This care is reflected in every drop. The result? An oil rich in Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, untreated and completely natural. A product that prioritises both taste and health benefits.

Innovative offer and design

The offer of DIE ÖLFREUNDE is versatile and creative. Whether the “celtic friend”, “bruschetta friend”, “leindotter friend” or even the “pasta friend” and “black cumin friend”, there is something for every taste. This creativity is also reflected in the design. The sustainable glass bottles with wooden handle cork cap are not only environmentally friendly, but also a real eye-catcher in every kitchen.

For those interested and oil lovers: Further information and the online shop are available at dieoelfreunde.de.

The Wienerwald are celebrating their big comeback! With a mix of tradition and modern gastronomy, the legendary restaurant chain opens its first house in Torfhaus in the Harz mountains to begin a new chapter in its impressive history.

Wienerwald’s reopening in the Harz Mountains

Anyone who recently wandered through the picturesque Torfhaus in the Harz Mountains could experience a veritable renaissance of craftsmanship. The townscape was dominated by a vibrant construction site, bearing witness to the soon to shine of the once legendary Wienerwald. This gastronomic phoenix rises from its ashes and chooses the touristy spot of Torfhaus for its first new restaurant.

A culinary balancing act between tradition and modernity

Tradition in mind, modernity in focus.” The Wienerwald has reinterpreted its culinary offer under this leitmotif. The grilled chicken, once the flagship of the house, is of course still enthroned on the menu. But the modern palate demands more: vegetarian and vegan options, trendy bowls and classic dishes with a contemporary twist expand the range. The in-house preparation of side dishes, seasoning mixes and marinades, which emphasise the unique taste experience of the Wienerwald, deserves special attention.

An oasis of hospitality in the heart of Torfhaus

With a capacity of an impressive 500 seats both indoors and outdoors, the new Wienerwald ensures that both locals and tourists will always find a spot.

According to Thies Borch-Madsen, managing director of Wienerwald: “The idea of the new Wienerwald is to present our guests with a cosy, comfortable place to spend some quality time here with family or friends.”

This promise is not only reflected in the ambience, but also in the first-class service offered by the new Wienerwald team.

Wienerwald on course for expansion

The comeback in Torfhaus is just the beginning. With a dynamic and forward-looking concept, Wienerwald plans to expand its presence in other German cities, including Dresden, Hildesheim and Bielefeld, and even on the picturesque Baltic Sea in Schleswig-Holstein. So for fans of the classic grilled chicken and anyone looking for a new gastronomic highlight, there are still plenty of places to experience the unique Wienerwald flair in the near future.
