The “Kitchen & Bar at the Courtyard by Marriott Cologne” is much more than just a hotel restaurant. It is a meeting place for hotel guests and Cologne residents alike, a place that mixes the Cologne joie de vivre with a dash of iconic pop culture. Inspired by the historical background of the Afri Cola and Bluna factories that once stood on this site, the Kitchen & Bar offers a culinary journey for the senses.

Afri Cola and Cologne Identity

As soon as you arrive at the Courtyard by Marriott Cologne, the design arouses your curiosity. The lobby and the “Kitchen & Bar” restaurant, affectionately abbreviated as K&B, are decorated with references to the iconic Afri advertising campaigns.

“This public area is not only a tribute to the cult drinks, but also a living piece of Cologne history,” explains Nina Eggers, General Manager of the hotel.

Design meets cosiness

As soon as you enter the newly designed lobby, you immediately feel: work has been done here with heart and mind. A world that combines warmth and style spreads out over 230 square metres. With 68 seats decorated in a harmonious mix of Mediterranean blue, earthy tones and elegant black, you immediately feel at home. And there are these little corners and niches everywhere: whether you want to make yourself comfortable on one of the comfortable sofas or prefer to gaze outwards on a windowsill with fluffy cushions – everyone will find their place here. Eggers puts it in a nutshell: “The special flair, reminiscent of the legendary Afri Cola pop culture, makes this place something very special not only for hotel guests but also for us Cologne residents.”

More than just hotel soul food

The Kitchen & Bar menu is a culinary kaleidoscope, ranging from hearty sandwiches to exquisite bowls. One of the highlights is the K&B Pastrami Sandwich, a flavourful explosion of cured beef brisket, marinated red cabbage and spicy chilli orange mayonnaise. “Our menus are inspired by the desires of hotel foodies,” says Eggers. Not to forget the drinks, which range from a diverse selection of Spritz variants to classic Kölsch.

Drinks that awaken joie de vivre

The drinks menu at the Kitchen & Bar exudes the Kölsch joie de vivre and offers its own Spritz selection, ranging from refreshing cocktails like the Rhein Cruise with Gosling’s Black Seal Rum and homemade pineapple syrup to delicious Kölsch variants.

A place of community

The heart of the Kitchen & Bar, however, is the community. It is a place designed to create a sense of belonging for both locals and guests. A place to have “relaxed conversations over delicious hotel soul food and locally inspired drinks”, says Eggers.
