Open Winery Days in Dresden Elbland: Discover Saxon Wine Culture

Saxon wines are highly appreciated due to their rarity and low production volume. Only less than 1% of German wines come from the small wine-growing region along the sunny slopes of the Elbe between Pirna and Diesbar-Seußlitz. The 500 hectares of vineyards are mainly cultivated by small farms by hand, which makes these wines even more unique.

Open Winery Days: Celebration of tradition and diversity

The 24th Open Winery Days will take place on the last weekend in August, with local vintners celebrating Saxony’s wine culture. 50 wineries, Besenwirtschaften and other wine institutions take part and offer cellar tours, vineyard visits and tastings. The event program is available online and can be ordered from the Elbland Dresden Tourism Association.

A varied festive weekend

Some events already start on Thursday, such as the cozy wine lounge of the Sächsische Winzergenossenschaft Meißen or the cultural program for the 20th anniversary of the winery Henke in Coswig. On Friday evening, visitors can choose from events at 20 different wineries.

The main festival program on Saturday and Sunday

On weekends, wines are served in historic wineries, romantic vineyard cottages and directly in the vineyards. For a fixed price of eight euros, visitors can enjoy three-tasting wines accompanied by regional specialties such as Fettbemmen, tarte flambée, grilled meats or cheese. Music from classical to swing and activities for children, such as tractor rides, horseback riding and bouncy castles, round out the program.

In rainy weather: covered seating in most wineries.

If it rains, most wineries have covered seating available. Selected guided tours on various topics such as biodiversity in organic vineyards or artisanal barrel making are also offered.
