“The World’s Best Bars 2023” – The highly anticipated annual list “The World’s 50 Best Bars” has just been unveiled in Singapore. Join us on a journey to the highlights of this selection.
An event that honours the elite
This year’s event, presented by Perrier, was held in Asia for the first time and was a blaze of tributes to the visionary bartenders, dedicated bar owners and pioneering brands that are shaping global cocktail culture.
“We are proud to highlight the unprecedented diversity of the global bar industry,” emphasises William Drew, Director of Content at 50 Best.
Barcelona shines again
Barcelona could score again. After Paradiso‘s win in 2022, this year Sips is at the top – both as the best bar in Europe and worldwide. Located in the heart of Barcelona’s L’Antiga Esquerra de l’Eixample district, Sips offers an interplay of elegant design and avant-garde techniques. “As the brain behind cocktail world icons Marc Álvarez and Simone Caporale, Sips was destined for greatness even before it was nominated at No. 37, just months after opening in 2021,” praises Drew.
European bars dominate
London continues to maintain its reputation as the cocktail capital with five bars on the list. But other European cities such as Madrid, Rome, Athens and Paris are also strongly represented. Each of these cities offers unique drinking experiences, ranging from innovative concepts to traditional approaches.
Clash of the giants: New York vs. Mexico City
While Barcelona and London shine in Europe, there is a neck-and-neck race between New York and Mexico City in North America. Both metropolises offer impressive bars that feature on the list, ensuring that North America remains firmly on the cocktail world map.
Asia and Australia set trends
Asia and Australia also celebrated great successes. Singapore’s Jigger & Pony and Sydney’s Maybe Sammy are just two examples of the world-class bars to be found in these regions. They represent a fusion of traditional Asian and Western influences.
