Madeira Island Ultra Trail: A breathtaking challenge

The people of Madeira are known for their love of the island, its culture and tradition. They like to party with friends, family or at big events that attract people from all over the world. The 2023 calendar of events includes exciting events such as the Madeira Island Ultra Trail (MIUT) from 22. until April 23 on the program. More than 2,000 participants cross 115 kilometers of Madeira’s impressive landscape and face numerous differences in altitude.

Flower Festival: Funchal is blooming

From April 27 to May 27, Funchal is transformed into a colorful event capital. The Flower Festival is all about the beautiful flowers of the island. Special highlights include the “Wall of Hope” where children and families lay flowers for peace, the colorful flower carpets in the streets of Funchal, as well as the Great Float Parade and the Madeira Car Parade. Floats, dancers in splendid costumes parade through the streets spreading joy. The Flower Festival will also be accompanied by various concerts.

Atlantic Festival: fireworks and music in harmony

For 20 years Madeira rings in the summer with the Atlantic Festival. Every Saturday in June, an international fireworks competition is held in Funchal Bay, where participants showcase their pyrotechnic skills. Visitors can expect a unique experience where fireworks and music merge. The winners will be determined by online voting and ballot boxes in Funchal’s city center.

Summer Opening 2023: A musical tribute to the sun

From July 14 to 22, Summer Opening 2023 will celebrate in Santa Catarina Park in the heart of Funchal. A wide range of musical styles, from hip-hop to reggae, the festival celebrates the sun and good vibes. Artists from different genres perform and create a hilarious atmosphere among the guests.

Madeira Wine Festival: A journey into the world of wine

The production of Madeira Wine has a long tradition on the island. From August 31 to September 17, the annual Madeira Wine Festival takes place. The central promenade of Avenida Arriaga in Funchal is decorated with activities and decorations related to wine production. Among them are barrels, wine baskets and live re-enactments of traditional winemaking methods. Participants dressed in traditional costumes demonstrate the treading of grapes, while the Madeira Wine Lounge at Praça do Povo in Funchal invites visitors to linger. Here visitors can taste wines from different producers, get to know the island’s typical gastronomy and learn more about the cultivation of grapes. Regional music groups provide an atmospheric setting in which guests can enjoy the different types of wine from the island.
