Holger Bodendorf: A culinary aesthete in the realm of art and culture
Holger Bodendorf, star chef and host of the Landhaus Stricker on Sylt, not only has a knack for culinary masterpieces, but also a keen eye for art. In his Landhaus, exquisite food and contemporary art meet in an impressive way.
Holger Bodendorf’s passion for art and culinary arts
Holger Bodendorf is not only a household name in the world of star cuisine. His Landhaus Stricker house Stricker in Tinnum on Sylt, newly designed and full of aesthetics, is a testimony to his deep appreciation of the fine arts. With Denis Brühl at his side, Bodendorf creates culinary highlights every day that are reminiscent of works of art. But it is not only on the plate, but also on the walls of the country house that one encounters art in its full glory.
A close friendship: Devin Miles and Holger Bodendorf
It cannot be overlooked: Devin Miles, Germany’s leading contemporary pop artist, has left a clear mark on Landhaus Stricker. A likeness of Scrooge McDuck with the inscription “It’s hard to be rich” is one of the first works of art to greet guests at the Landhaus. Holger Bodendorf not only admires Miles’ artwork, he also maintains a close friendship with him. For over a decade, Bodendorf collected 55 works of art by Devin Miles, which can now be admired as an impressive permanent exhibition in his Landhaus house. A special appreciation is shown in the naming of the in-house bar: “Miles Bar“.
Icon meets icon: Devin Miles’ masterful works
Devin Miles’ art is characterised by his depictions of film legends from the 50s and 60s as well as world-famous Disney motifs. From Sean Connery to Marilyn Monroe to Scrooge McDuck – these icons embellish the ambience of the lobby, library, bar and restaurants at the Landhaus Stricker. His works are a mixture of screen printing, painting and airbrushing on materials such as aluminium or gilded wood. New additions to Holger Bodendorf’s collection include “We can be Heroes” with David Bowie and “Love Coco” with Karl Lagerfeld.
Art, design and love of home united
But it is not only the artworks by Devin Miles that shape the image of the Landhaus Stricker. The interior design, characterised by custom-made furniture and high-quality fabrics in bold colours such as green or pink, creates an atmosphere of modernity and elegance. A special highlight are the island motifs by Sylt photographer Harald Hentzschel, which can be found in large glass elements in the newly designed rooms and suites.
Holger Bodendorf is a man of the senses. His Landhaus Stricker is not only a place of culinary delights, but also a tribute to art. It is a place where gourmets and art lovers alike get their money’s worth.
